Alice Ward, the mother of Lowell boxers Micky Ward and Dicky Eklund died Wednesday morning at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, Boston.com reported.
Ward was portrayed by Melissa Leo in “The Fighter.” Leo won an Oscar for the role, though Ward had said she was unhappy with how Leo portrayed her.
Ward had been in poor health. She went into cardiac arrest in January and stopped breathing for more than a half hour before doctors revived her. She was making a recovery before her health failed again.
She also leaves seven daughters.
