It’s been a rough year for Nintendo’s 3DS handheld system. After a lackluster launch, disappointing sales and a hefty price drop, things must look pretty grim for the system right? Well, not really when you take it in context.
Surprisingly, the 3DS is set to surpass the original DS in terms of first year sales. The original DS console sold 2.37 million units in its first year, the 3DS is currently less than a million units from breaking that mark. With two major game launches and the Christmas holiday coming up, the 3DS seems poised to break that record.
“With a massive lineup of software on the way and the first-year sales record of Nintendo DS in its sights, Nintendo 3DS enters its first holiday season with a full head of steam,” said Nintendo America marketing boss Scott Moffitt.
